The Ilyushin Il-14, 'Crate', was a military transport aircraft used by the Soviet Air Force during the Cold War. Developed from the commercial airliner Il-12, it entered service in 1954. It was mainly used for logistic cargo transportation as well as for parachute insertions. The aircraft was reliable and sturdy.
Technical Characteristics
The Ilyushin Il-14 was a two-engine, all-metal monoplane. It featured low wing, whose leading edge was straight and perpendicular to fuselage body and its trailing edge tapered towards the tip. It was fitted with tricycle landing gear. It was powered by two ASh-82T piston engines, which put out 1,900 horse-power each.
